Pärnu river

The Pärnu River is one of the largest rivers in Estonia that flows into Pärnu Bay. At the entrance to the bay is the historic Pärnu pier, which is one of the city’s most interesting sights, which was once built to deepen the harbor and revive trade.

According to an ancient legend, young lovers must walk together to the end of the pier to confirm their love there with a kiss. It brings eternal love to lovers.

At the beginning of 2019, a lighted boardwalk was completed, which starts from Rannapark and winds along the Pärnu riverside to the beginning of the stone pier. The almost half-kilometer-long light traffic road built on stilts ends at the sandy beach near the lighthouse, there are places to sit with benches and bike racks on the path. The boardwalk quickly became a very popular walking spot among the locals, so we recommend that all visitors find their way there!

The riverside promenade facing the city center is one of the city’s attractions. It is a beautiful place to walk, decorated with lanterns in the shape of oars. At the beginning of the promenade, there is a boat harbor where river cruises start in the summer, and as you move forward you will find various cafes.

The health sports trail running along the banks of the Pärnu River is known as the Jaanson trail after the running competition. In addition to sports and enjoying nature, this is an ideal place to simply walk, in warm weather you will meet many good-natured walkers here. You can rest your feet on the seats placed by the river and watch the birds active among the water lilies and water cups.
